Youth Sailing Program
Our Kids Sailing Program are three-day-per-week sessions held in June, July and August, on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday’s. Kids age 8-15 years-old will learn the basics of sailing, navigation, boat rigging and water safety in our Prouty Beach Campground location; the perfect “beginner terrain” for starting their sailing careers. Kids will sail one of our fleet of “Optimist/Vanguard prams, the world’s most prominent international one-design training boat for kids under 16, sailed in over 120 countries.
This three day program will teach kids the basics with over half their time spent on the water. Multiple weeks in our program will allow kids to develop skills further, and may progress to another boat in our fleet depending on sailing proficiency and confidence. We adjust the program to students’ needs, abilities and base our day-to-day itinerary on their development. Our program is designed around a structured, weekly rhythm focused on technical skill building, boat handling, and water confidence. While each week follows a core progression, we dynamically adjust the challenges to foster advanced skill development for returning sailors who join us for multiple weeks.
🎒 What to Bring & Pack
To ensure a safe and comfortable time on the water, please make sure your sailor arrives with:
👟 Closed-toe shoes (Required at all times—no flip-flops or sandals)
🥪 Lunch, snacks, and a water bottle
🧴 Sunscreen
🩳 A Towel and Swimsuit
⛺ Gear Storage: All personal bags, lunches, and essentials can be securely stored at the NCSC tent during our on-the-water sessions.
🕒 Daily Schedule: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Our sessions run for 3 hours daily. Because sailing builds up an appetite, we will take a break during the session for a quick lunch or snack right out on the water or at the dock to keep everyone's energy high!

Seeing our youth sailors out on Lake Memphremagog is truly the highlight at NCSC. It's inspiring to watch them grow from beginners to confident sailors, mastering the wind in their Optimist Prams. Every session is fun, builds skills, and sparks a lifelong love for being on the water. We're proud to offer this unique experience in Newport, VT.
Our NCSC instructors don't just teach from the dock; they're right there, sailing alongside students in their prams! This hands-on approach provides immediate feedback and demonstrations.
