Youth Sailing Program
Our Kids Sailing Program are three-day-per-week sessions held in June, July and August, on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday’s. Kids age 8-15 years-old will learn the basics of sailing, navigation, boat rigging and water safety in our Prouty Beach Campground location; the perfect “beginner terrain” for starting their sailing careers. Once they develop their skill level, sailing proficiency and confidence they will move to Newport Harbor at our Eastside Marina location. Kids will sail one of our fleet of “Optimist/Vanguard prams, the world’s most prominent international one-design training boat for kids under 16, sailed in over 120 countries.
At Prouty beach kids will sail with an instructor either in a Pram, A Sunfish Sailboat, or as crew on our Hunter 216 sloop. A one week program will teach kids the basics with over half their time spent on the water. Multiple weeks in our program will allow kids to develop skills to sail solo in the “Optimist” dingy in light wind (15knots or less). We adjust the program to students’ needs, abilities and base our day-to-day itinerary on their development. Wind and weather always play a role in our plans so we constantly adjust to make sure everyone gets plenty of time on the water, under sail.

Our NCSC instructors don't just teach from the dock; they're right there, sailing alongside students in their prams! This hands-on approach provides immediate feedback and demonstrations. Our mentors create a welcoming, supportive atmosphere, building confidence with every lesson. It's an enriching way to truly learn to sail.
Seeing our youth sailors out on Lake Memphremagog is truly the highlight at NCSC. It's inspiring to watch them grow from beginners to confident sailors, mastering the wind in their Optimist Prams.
